Review by Alex- Evermore

Evermore by Alyson Noel

Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people's thoughts, and know a person's life story by touch. Going out of her way to shield herself from human contact to suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high school--but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste...

Ever sees Damen and feels an instant recognition. He is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy, and he holds many secrets. Damen is able to make things appear and disappear, he always seems to know what she's thinking--and he's the only one who can silence the noise and the random energy in her head. She doesn't know who he really is--or what he is. Damen equal parts light and darkness, and he belongs to an enchanted new world where no one ever dies.

Evermore is a paranormal romance that starts off very similar to Twilight but then slowly changes. Similar to Edward, Ever can read people's thoughts and Damen is the only one who can calm them. Actually, it's a lot like True Blood then.

But personally... I almost like Twilight better. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a diehard Twi-fan. I'm really over the whole Twilight franchise. But, just, Evermore didn't grab me.

I felt the relationship between Damen and Ever felt forced most of the time. I didn't feel any real connection or spark. Maybe that's just me though, because I couldn't get into the book, because others seem to love Evermore. Damen pulls back a lot and Ever's left wounded and confused most of the time. The romance just didn't feel real to me.

The writing was fine. It flowed nicely, it was okay. It wasn't great though, and I didn't think it matched the story as well as it could have. Ever's supposed to be all messed up, feeling people's auras and hearing thoughts. But the writing is so normal, so valley girl, so average teen. Then again, I thought Ever seemed like a normal teen most of the time, minus the fact she can hear voices and whatnot. But for all she pretended to be all angsty with her hoodie and loud music, she seemed almost pretentious to me.

While I couldn't feel the book at all at first, the ending is something else. The book and plot really picks up towards the end. Fight scenes, mystical powers, and finally learning the truth of Damen. And Ever. Learning who and what Ever really is. That's interesting. I really like how it twists and when the truth is revealed, I was quite surprised. At that point, I couldn't put the book down. So for those who haven't read the book, which is probably slim to none since I think I'm the last one :P, don't give up hope if the beginning is annoying.

Overall, I'll be picking up Blue Moon, and I'd suggest you all do too.

  3. I liked this book okay... like you I thought it picked up at the end, and that's probably why I'll pick the next one. The writing was nice, too, but I couldn't feel Ever's angst, either.
