Summer Reading by Lauren

Alright so this summer, I've decided to not only read newly released books, but to try and make my way through the classics and other slighty more obscure books. So far I've read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (which was quite weird) and The Great Gatsby (which I loved).
Just wondering if any of you have read any of these/have any opinions on them you'd like to share :)

1. Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

2. The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath

3. The Elegance of the Hedgehog - Muriel Barbery

4. The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde

5. Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen

6. Tess of the D'Urbervilles - Thomas Hardy

7. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen &Seth Grahame-Smith

8. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

9. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

10. I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

11. Emma by Jane Austen

I'd love to hear what you all think! We'll see if this ends up being a total flop or not... :)

  2. Well, I can say that I've started several of those books, but never finished them. I think The Bell Jar was a little too depressing for my taste, but it's been a while since I picked it up. I Capture the Castle looks interesting- I'll look for it at the library :)

  3. I read the Bell Jar this winter, and I loved it - definitely on my "list of best". But, it IS a little depressing and somber than other things on your list! Jane Eyre is a favorite from when I was a teen. I read it in one single day and kept very vivid memories of it.

Most of your other books are on my TBR pile, too!

  4. I absolutely love your selection of books. What a great list! I want to try and read Jane Eyre on the soonish side, but I might not be able to get to it this summer.

  5. It's sooo great that you're reading all those books. I've been trying to read a few more classic novels here and there too...so far, I haven't been doing so hot, but I'm hoping to get through a few more before the summer's over.
From your list, I've read Pride and Prejudice and I have The Bell Jar and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies on my shelf still to read. :) Good luck!
I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of some of Charlotte Bronte's stuff. I've been debating whether to pick her up for a while...

  6. Sounds like a good list. I've got Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in my reading pile, too. I've tried to read Wuthering Heights, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, and Emma... but I never got very far.

Jane Eyre and I Capture the Castle are two of my very favourite books, though. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! They're really good.
